Irregular bend relief DFM check
Irregular bend relief overview
Irregular bend relief size issue can occur when the bend relief is not proportionally sized to the bend radius and sheet thickness.
When the bend relief is too small, it can cause deformation, cracking, or even tearing during the bending process. On the other hand, if the bend relief is too large, it can create weak points in the metal and decrease the overall strength of the design.
Irregular bend relief detection conditions
MTK identifies this issue when the following conditions are met:
where:
- — actual width of bend relief
- — actual length of bend relief
- — actual sheet thickness
- — actual bend radius
- — minimum bend relief width to sheet thickness ratio from expected bend relief parameters
- — minimum bend relief length to bend radius ratio from expected bend relief parameters
How MTK detects irregular bend reliefs
MTK automatically analyzes B-Rep CAD models for irregular bend reliefs. The SDK checks the relevant geometry against DFM criteria to identify potential issues that can increase manufacturing complexity or cost, or lead to quality or assembly problems.
Documentation and API reference
Detailed API reference for the irregular bend relief DFM check is provided in the MTK documentation, including issue classes, detection interfaces, and integration details.
