Irregular notch DFM check
Irregular notch overview
An irregular notch size issue occurs when the size and shape of the notch is not consistent with the intended design.
If a notch size is too large, it might cause parts of the sheet metal to not align properly, or it might create weak points in the metal that could compromise its structural integrity.
On the other hand, if the notch size is too small, it can cause the sheet metal to warp or crack during the cutting or bending process.
Irregular notch detection conditions
MTK identifies this issue when the following conditions are met:
where:
- — actual width of notch
- — actual length of notch
- — actual sheet thickness
- — minimum notch width to sheet thickness ratio from expected notch parameters
- — maximum notch length to notch width ratio from expected notch parameters
How MTK detects irregular notches
MTK automatically analyzes B-Rep CAD models for irregular notches. The SDK checks the relevant geometry against DFM criteria to identify potential issues that can increase manufacturing complexity or cost, or lead to quality or assembly problems.
Documentation and API reference
Detailed API reference for the irregular notch DFM check is provided in the MTK documentation, including issue classes, detection interfaces, and integration details.
