Irregular wall thickness DFM check
Irregular wall thickness overview
Irregular wall thickness issue in molding design analysis refers to the challenge of molding features with wall thickness deviating from the average value. This can lead to uneven cooling and problems with shrinking during the molding process.
Therefore, it is recommended to maintain wall thicknesses variance of 20% or less across the design’s wall thicknesses to limit potential structural and aesthetic issues.
Irregular wall thickness detection conditions
MTK identifies this issue when the following condition is met:
where:
- — distance between two faces
- — average distance
- — uniform distance percent
How MTK detects irregular wall thicknesses
MTK automatically analyzes B-Rep CAD models for irregular wall thicknesses. The SDK checks the relevant geometry against DFM criteria to identify potential issues that can increase manufacturing complexity or cost, or lead to quality or assembly problems.
Documentation and API reference
Detailed API reference for the irregular wall thickness DFM check is provided in the MTK documentation, including issue classes, detection interfaces, and integration details.
