Large wall thickness DFM check
Large wall thickness overview
Large wall thickness issue in molding design analysis refers to the challenge of molding features with overly thick walls. This can lead to difficulties such as uneven cooling, excessive material usage, and potential defects like voids or surface blemishes.
The root causes typically involve inadequate cooling time, excessive injection pressure, or suboptimal material selection. Therefore, it is recommended to maintain wall thicknesses of 4.0 mm or less to prevent potential material flow problems and prolonged cooling times.
Large wall thickness detection conditions
MTK identifies this issue when the following condition is met:
where:
- — distance between two faces
- — maximal expected distance
How MTK detects large wall thicknesses
MTK automatically analyzes B-Rep CAD models for large wall thicknesses. The SDK checks the relevant geometry against DFM criteria to identify potential issues that can increase manufacturing complexity or cost, or lead to quality or assembly problems.
Documentation and API reference
Detailed API reference for the large wall thickness DFM check is provided in the MTK documentation, including issue classes, detection interfaces, and integration details.
