Narrow region in pocket DFM check
Narrow region in pocket overview
In CNC machining milling design, a narrow region in a pocket refers to a small or tight area within the pocket that is difficult for the cutting tool to access.
Narrow region can pose challenges for the cutting tool in terms of limited visibility, reduced cutting speed, increased tool wear, and potential tool breakage.
Narrow region in pocket detection conditions
MTK identifies this issue when the following condition is met:
where:
- — actual pocket size
- — expected minimum pocket size
How MTK detects narrow regions in pockets
MTK automatically analyzes B-Rep CAD models for narrow regions in pockets. The SDK checks the relevant geometry against DFM criteria to identify potential issues that can increase manufacturing complexity or cost, or lead to quality or assembly problems.
Documentation and API reference
Detailed API reference for the narrow region in pocket DFM check is provided in the MTK documentation, including issue classes, detection interfaces, and integration details.
