Small distance between bosses DFM check
Small distance between bosses overview
Small distance between bosses issue in molding design analysis refers to the challenge of molding features with bosses placed very close to each other. This can result in challenges like warping, sink marks, and diminished strength.
The root causes often include inadequate cooling due to thin areas between bosses, which can affect part quality. Therefore, it is recommended to maintain spacing between bosses at least twice the nominal thickness.
Small distance between bosses detection conditions
MTK identifies this issue when the following condition is met:
where:
- — actual distance between bosses
- — actual nominal thickness
- — expected minimum distance between bosses to nominal thickness ratio
How MTK detects small distances between bosses
MTK automatically analyzes B-Rep CAD models for small distances between bosses. The SDK checks the relevant geometry against DFM criteria to identify potential issues that can increase manufacturing complexity or cost, or lead to quality or assembly problems.
Documentation and API reference
Detailed API reference for the small distance between bosses DFM check is provided in the MTK documentation, including issue classes, detection interfaces, and integration details.
