Small distance between extruded holes DFM check
Small distance between extruded holes overview
When designing sheet metal parts with multiple extruded holes, it is important to consider the spacing between those holes.
If the distance between the holes is small, the material between them will become thinner, which can cause the sheet metal part to become weaker and potentially break under stress. This is because the stress applied to the sheet metal part is not distributed evenly throughout the part, and the material between the holes is not strong enough to handle the load.
Small distance between extruded holes detection conditions
MTK identifies this issue when the following condition is met:
where:
- — actual distance between extruded holes
- — actual thickness
- — expected minimum distance between extruded holes to sheet thickness ratio
How MTK detects small distances between extruded holes
MTK automatically analyzes B-Rep CAD models for small distances between extruded holes. The SDK checks the relevant geometry against DFM criteria to identify potential issues that can increase manufacturing complexity or cost, or lead to quality or assembly problems.
Documentation and API reference
Detailed API reference for the small distance between extruded holes DFM check is provided in the MTK documentation, including issue classes, detection interfaces, and integration details.
