Small distance between threaded hole and edge DFM check
Small distance between threaded hole and edge overview
In CNC machining, small distance between a threaded hole and the edge of a part refers to the placement of a hole being too close to the part boundary.
This issue can cause thread stripping, breakout at the wall, or excessive vibration during tapping. As a result, the hole may require retapping or redesign, which increases machining cost and reduces reliability of the final part.
Small distance between threaded hole and edge detection conditions
MTK identifies this issue when the following condition is met:
where:
- — actual distance from threaded hole to edge
- — actual threaded hole major diameter
- — expected maximum distance to diameter ratio
How MTK detects small distances between threaded holes and edges
MTK automatically analyzes B-Rep CAD models for small distances between threaded holes and edges. The SDK checks the relevant geometry against DFM criteria to identify potential issues that can increase manufacturing complexity or cost, or lead to quality or assembly problems.
Documentation and API reference
Detailed API reference for the small distance between threaded hole and edge DFM check is provided in the MTK documentation, including issue classes, detection interfaces, and integration details.
