Small flange length DFM check
Small flange length overview
The flange length refers to the length of the flat section of a flanged edge.
A small flange length issue can occur when the flange length is too small to accommodate the intended bend radius. This can cause the material to wrinkle or crack during the forming process, leading to a defective or unusable part.
Small flange length detection conditions
MTK identifies this issue when the following condition is met:
where:
- — actual flange length
- — actual sheet thickness
- — expected minimum flange length to sheet thickness ratio
- — actual bend radius
How MTK detects small flange lengths
MTK automatically analyzes B-Rep CAD models for small flange lengths. The SDK checks the relevant geometry against DFM criteria to identify potential issues that can increase manufacturing complexity or cost, or lead to quality or assembly problems.
Documentation and API reference
Detailed API reference for the small flange length DFM check is provided in the MTK documentation, including issue classes, detection interfaces, and integration details.
