Small radius internal corner DFM check (turning)
Small radius internal corner overview
A turned part with a small internal corner radius issue in CNC machining turning design can cause problems during the machining process, as the tool used to cut the part may not be able to reach into the tight radius, resulting in an unfinished surface.
The issue may also result in structural weakness, as sharp internal corners can create stress points that may compromise the integrity of the part.
Small radius internal corner detection conditions
MTK identifies this issue when the following condition is met:
where:
- — actual turned part internal corner radius
- — expected minimum turned part internal corner radius
How MTK detects small radius internal corners
MTK automatically analyzes B-Rep CAD models for small radius internal corners. The SDK checks the relevant geometry against DFM criteria to identify potential issues that can increase manufacturing complexity or cost, or lead to quality or assembly problems.
Documentation and API reference
Detailed API reference for the small radius internal corner DFM check is provided in the MTK documentation, including issue classes, detection interfaces, and integration details.
