Small wall thickness DFM check (injection molding)
Small wall thickness overview
Small wall thickness issue in molding design analysis refers to the challenge of molding features with thin walls. This can result in challenges like warping, sink marks, and diminished strength.
The root causes often include improper material flow, insufficient packing pressure, or flawed mold design. Therefore, it is recommended to maintain wall thicknesses at least 1.0 mm to avoid structurally weak or distorted parts.
Small wall thickness detection conditions
MTK identifies this issue when the following condition is met:
where:
- — distance between two faces
- — minimal expected distance
How MTK detects small wall thicknesses
MTK automatically analyzes B-Rep CAD models for small wall thicknesses. The SDK checks the relevant geometry against DFM criteria to identify potential issues that can increase manufacturing complexity or cost, or lead to quality or assembly problems.
Documentation and API reference
Detailed API reference for the small wall thickness DFM check is provided in the MTK documentation, including issue classes, detection interfaces, and integration details.
