Square end keyway DFM check
Square end keyway overview
A square keyway is a slot that mechanical components can be attached to.
Creating a square keyway when designing a part for CNC machining turning presents some difficulties. One of these issues is the precise accuracy and size of the keyway slot.
The dimensions and tolerances of the keyway must be within specific parameters for the mechanical component to be secured properly onto the shaft. Secondly, the corners of the square keyway can be prone to damage, including stress concentrations that can lead to weakness and eventual failure.
How MTK detects square end keyways
MTK automatically analyzes B-Rep CAD models for square end keyways. The SDK checks the relevant geometry against DFM criteria to identify potential issues that can increase manufacturing complexity or cost, or lead to quality or assembly problems.
Documentation and API reference
Detailed API reference for the square end keyway DFM check is provided in the MTK documentation, including issue classes, detection interfaces, and integration details.
